Park West Gallery founder Albert Scaglione involved himself with a variety of different professions and causes in his working life. Albert Scaglione began working in the art world as a teenager at his cousin's gallery. At Newark College of Engineering, Albert Scaglione immersed himself in the study of magnetohydrodynamic engineering, earning his undergraduate degree in 1962. This qualified Albert Scaglione to become an instructor at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.
Outside of academia, Albert Scaglione lent his talents to NASA, conducting research in magnetohydrodynamic engineering. As the focus of his work shifted to military applications, Albert Scaglione decided to bring his career back to dealing art in 1969.
Over the next ten years, Albert Scaglione opened his gallery and made essential connections with artists from abroad, including Yaacov Agam, a major figure in kinetic art, and Victor Vasarely, a member of the op art movement. As a business owner, Albert Scaglione reports sales of more than $100 million a year with a staff of approximately 300 highly trained associates.
In addition to his professional work as an art dealer, Albert Scaglione serves his community as a generous philanthropist. Albert Scaglione and his wife Mitsie opened the charitable organization Park West Foundation in 2006. This nonprofit addresses the issues faced by families and young adults, with special attention paid to young adults transitioning from upbringings in foster care environments. Albert Scaglione's Park West Foundation encourages community involvement by using its resources to grant awards to honor distinguished service, such as the work of anti-violence activist Weusi Olusola.
